History - 190 years HARTMANN

The HARTMANN GROUP is built on a 190 year history. It is a history of people and their ideas that began with the cotton mill of Ludwig von Hartmann. His son Paul Hartmann Sr. later founded the Paul Hartmann Bleaching, Dyeing and Dressing Company and expanded the company into a dressing material factory. Dedicated partners from the medical field helped develop products and test them in actual use. Two of them were Sir Joseph Lister und Victor von Bruns. Their inventions significantly contributed to improve wound care.

Who was Ludwig von Hartmann?

With the acquisition of the Meebold factory in 1818, Ludwig von Hartmann laid the foundation for the later dressing material factory. His Ludwig Hartmann company quickly became one of the largest cotton mills in the country.

With over 50 years experience in knitting and weaving textile fabrics, HARTMANN Inc. has been recognized as a leading US manufacturer of support, compression and fixation bandaging products.  HARTMANN Inc. has marked the following milestones in the company’s development and growth over the years.

In 1949, the Connecticut Bandage Company manufactured its first bandage and developed the objective of becoming a leading high quality bandage manufacturer.  When the Braun family acquired the company in 1973, the name was changed to Conco Medical Company, and it became the sister organization to Karl Otto Braun (KOB), a highly regarded bandage manufacturer in Germany.  In 1994, Conco Medical Company moved the product finishing business from Bridgeport, CT to Rock Hill, SC where the knitting and weaving plant was already located.

Conco Medical Company was acquired by PAUL HARTMANN AG in January 2001 after the new Wound Care product line was launched in 2000.  Once associated with the HARTMANN Group international company family, the name became HARTMANN-CONCO Inc. This acquisition has allowed HARTMANN Inc. to offer an extensive range of high quality advanced wound care dressings, retention dressings and traditional wound care products in addition to our already established high quality bandages.
